Well I mentioned I'd been speed dating and that it was a fun night - well last Tuesday I went on my first date from the pool of four interested candidates.
It was with a guy called Keith who works in marketing, but he lives in Leeds (a neck of the UK I am more than familiar with) but works in London - one hell of a commute.
Anyway he was 33 and looked fairly handsome. We met in Balans for dinner to which he was 10 minutes late. I wasn't complaining as I've started back at the gym since my op and in just a week my pecs are pumped. I decided to wear a deep v-neck to show my assets off. This didn't go un-appreciated as a guy two tables away was just staring at me all night and even followed me down to the toilet, but he didn't have the balls to chat to me. His loss!
Anyway conversation was easy with Keith, I asked if he'd had any work done as his forehead didn't move and his lips were extremely full for a white man. He assured me that despite his uncle being a plastic surgeon, he remained untouched - I didn't buy that either. I confessed all my work in progress and he was please by my honesty.
Talking of honesty I found out that despite being 33 and deciding he was gay at the age of 24 he's still not come out to his 40 year brother or 80 year old mum - a bit worrying if you are trying to come across as an honest guy?
After a nice dinner that lasted a good two hours due to chat we went to the Yard for a drink. It was obvious from the body language he was into me so we kissed and it wasn't disappointing.
As I was trying to come across innocent I wasn't putting out on the first date, but Keith did ask me how I felt tonight had went. I told him I wasn't looking for an instant boyfriend but wanted to get to know someone and I felt we got on well and would like to get to know him better. I also stated a second date was a must, he agreed on all points. Another horse to my stable.
He walked me to the tube and we parted ways with a promise to hook up in a weeks time. Being me when I got off the tube I sent him a text thanking him for a good night and reaffirmed my interest and hope for a second date.
I was shocked and insulted the next day when I'd not had a reply. It just shows you some men are full of shit. Still my next speed dating date is lined up for Friday so I can't complain.
About three weeks ago I had a friend request on facebook, nothing strange about that you might think, but the note attached read your cute. Well naturally compliments get my attention, so I checked out his profile. Nothing strange he was an average type of 36 year guy. The strange thing was we didn't have any mutual friends.
I don't know why I did press the reject button but I decided to accept, but in my response message I returned the complement and asked if he was gay - he looked laddish in his pictures so I thought I better check.
A couple of days later he responded with full stats including height and 'dashing blue eyes'. Over that week we chatted on facebook and I got a sense that he was ok and made the bold move of asking if he fancied meeting up for dinner?
He accepted and this Wednesday we met in Archway in North London as we'd planned to go to the gastro pub, St John's. I was on time as usual and he was 15 minutes late, not off to a good start in my books. After the first glass of wine I broached the white elephant in the room and stated that this was so weird as I've never met anyone I didn't already know from facebook let alone go on a date. I asked why and how he'd found my profile and decided to befriend me. He couldn't remember. So far he wasn't racking up the positive points.
As the conversation started to dry I decided to talk about what I know, me and started telling why I came to London 14 years ago. It was to do my degree in fashion communication (PR and marketing). I then went on to say I only managed a year in the fashion arena once I graduated. I then went on to talk about the horrible agency I worked for and how I found it two faced. He then told me he also used to work in fashion PR. We soon found out we worked for the same agency, then after further questioning and checking dates it turns out he was the guy who replaced me when I left - Coincidence number 1!
I then started talking about my current job, he interjects and tells me he has a close friend who works in the same field. It only turns out his friend is one of the new company directors - Coincidence number 2!
After this I move onto family life and tell him about my baby sister being in a car accident three years ago when she was 13. How she was in a coma for three months and now has Acquired Brain Injury or ABI as its known. He then tells me he was run over by a truck three years ago and also has a mild form of ABI - Coincidence number 3!
It also turns out our birthday while a year apart fall within a week of each other - Semi Coincidence number 4!
Over all the date went well and conversation flowed all evening, in fact we got there for 7pm and the next thing I knew it was nearly midnight.
While he didn't invite me back, he did walk me to the station and we did have a lovely quick snog. I don't know why but out of just under 8 million people in London, I meet someone on facebook with so may things related to my actual life.
We agreed that we'd meet up this Saturday so fingers crossed I get a little more than first base. Although I am worried that while he is an average looking laddish gay man, did all the coincidences make him more attractive in my eyes.
Let's see where this one goes.
After the let down by Thompson, I went out to a birthday party with a friend where I got trashed. While at the party set a hook up in Hackney with some guy, I got to his about midnight but was so trashed I couldn’t rise to the occasion. But I was still horny so I helped him get off then came back home and logged back onto gaydar – it wasn’t long before I was chatting to Jim Bow, he was wired and horny as well. I got a taxi to his and had some really hot sex. Real manly kissing, rubbing and throwing each other around the bedroom. It was hot and exhausting stuff so it was nice when he climaxed and we could have a couple of hours worth of cuddling.
I was relieved when I got back home that my ex was out so I didn’t need to shamefully look him in the eye and admit what I’d been up to only three days after becoming single. Jim-Bow and I followed up our encounter with continual txt and chat, which lead to follow up dates.
Well since the amicable break up the first thing I did was reinstate my gaydar profile. However one mistake I made was stating that I didn’t have a type and went for personality, this lead to me getting over 70 messages, mainly from fat balding me with cock-shots. Out of this there were about three decent offers one was from a guy I’ll call Thompson. He was flirty and insisted on meeting for a date. We chatted via messages, which progressed to txt messages then a video chat on msn. So by the Wednesday when we actually met it was like we’d already been on two dates.
Thompson was a nice guy, nice firm lips and the date consisted of a lot of kissing, heavy petting and compliments left right and centre. At the end of the night I was torn, but we decided to wait, with him claiming he had been sleeping around and wanted to get a clean bill of sexual health before doing anything with me. Something he did the following day.
The rest of that week was filled with flirty texts and telephone calls – we met again on the Saturday when I went to the flat he shared with his ex (yes I’m not the only one with this type of living arrangement). We started with some snogging, which led to some cuddling with our tops off with led to dry humping in underpants – which lead to a mutual wank and climax. After this we went for lunch and Thompson’s mood and desire shifted down a gear. I suddenly began to over analyse the situation – looking back he got what he wanted and that was that despite his bravado the he wanted a little more. I still chat to Thompson and I consider him a gaydar friend as he was a nice guy, he initially said I need to play around and he was right.
